Most students have more difficulty in some TOEFL areas than in others. In many cases, spoken English is more challenging than written English, and reading the language can be easier for some clients than understanding spoken text. TOEFL requirements at universities in the English-speaking world mirror this complexity. The general TOEFL mandate at Carnegie Mellon University, for example, is a total score of 102 for undergraduates. Certain types of engineering students, however, need only score an 84, provided that this is built from at least 22 each on listening, reading, and writing and 18 speaking. Other degree programs require a much higher speaking score, especially if they involve teaching assistantships. Graduate teaching assistants at Northwestern University, for instance, must produce a speaking subscore of 26 or better along with any other departmental standards for other subscores or total scores. Manhattan Review's customized TOEFL tutoring precisely guides our students to the TOEFL scores that are relevant for their particular situation.
International students consistently succeed on the TOEFL through Manhattan Review's TOEFL prep services. Our students have been accepted to undergraduate and graduate degree programs at the English-speaking world's best universities, including Oxford, Princeton, Harvard, Cambridge, Stanford, MIT, the London School of Economics, the University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins, the University of Edinburgh, Cornell, Dartmouth, and UC Berkeley. Thousands of our former students have completed their degrees and gone on to lucrative jobs at the world's top companies. We've seen our past clients hired by Fortune 500 businesses such as United Technologies, Enterprise Products Partners, Archer Daniels Midland, and Dow Chemical, and also by local companies such as Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press, China Eastern Airlines, China Merchants Energy Shipping Company, and Aden Services.
